Birmingham, AL, March 15, 2011—Altec Industries and Lucas Tree Experts have announced a joint environmental strategy to promote Green Fleet technology for diesel fleet consumers. Two Altec Green Fleet trucks have been integrated into the Lucas Tree service fleet to increase awareness of sustainable practices in the tree care industry.
“Lucas Tree is excited to be one of the first tree companies in the U.S. to offer our utility customers a hybrid solution for their vegetation requirements,” said Art Batson, III, co-owner and CFO of Lucas Tree. “These hybrid units will provide a cleaner, quieter work environment while reducing our company’s carbon footprint. In addition, we anticipate this initiative will help accelerate the development and acceptance of hybrid fleet technologies in our industry.”
Lucas Tree operates in New England, the Carolinas and Canada, and plans to utilize the hybrid units in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The company will purchase the equipment with federal support provided under the 2008 Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA), which is administered by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP).
