Birmingham, AL, November 30, 2011— Altec, Inc., held a formal dedication ceremony this week for a Habitat for Humanity home to a local Birmingham family in Center Point, AL.
Construction on the home began Oct. 6, 2011, and concluded earlier this month. More than 200 Altec associates participated in the construction and contributed nearly 1,500 man hours toward the project.
“Providing low income families with hope and opportunity through affordable housing is an important element to growth and spirit within the community,” said Lee Styslinger, III, Chairman and CEO of Altec, Inc. “Altec’s partnership with Habitat provided our associates the opportunity to make a real difference here in Birmingham. Habitat for Humanity offers needy families stability and security for their children as well as a sense of dignity and pride. In turn, good housing in communities attracts economic investment and development.”
Altec’s Habitat home was presented to the LaShonda Porter family Nov. 29, during a special ceremony that included many of the Altec associates involved in the home’s construction.
“This home will help to change the lives of my four children,” said Ms. Porter. “It’s a fresh start, and I don’t know how to begin to thank all the volunteers involved in giving us such a wonderful new beginning.”
