Altec Cranes Boom Disassembly Interval Extension

Altec Cranes Boom Disassembly Interval Extension

Altec is pleased to announce a boom disassembly and inspection interval extension from five years to ten years. Effective immediately, all new builds or existing units regardless of build date can now follow the updated factory recommended boom disassembly inspection interval of ten years in lieu of the previous interval of five years.

Altec’s continuous improvement culture and dedication to consistently improve safety, productivity and operator convenience has led to a number of firsts for Altec’s Boom Truck Crane lineup in the marketplace. From the patented dual-entry cab to the radio remote with LMAP display, Altec has pioneered many features in the boom truck industry. In that same spirit of better serving our customers, this extension will improve owner’s return on their equipment by moving the interval from five years to ten years.

Owners will be receiving official notification in the mail and can contact their sales representative with any questions. For more information on our boom truck lineup and other Altec equipment, call 800-958-2555 or contact an Altec representative online.

DB41B: A Stronger Derrick for Storm Hardening a Backyard

The DB41B is a track-mounted digger derrick that provides easy access to confined work areas, such as residential backyards. Built to serve the electrical utility distribution and telecommunications markets, the DB41B provides best-in-class lifting and digging capacities, while also delivering best-in-class multi-functioning speed and performance.

The DB41B has increased lifting and digging capacities, while still maintaining a compact size, making it an ideal unit for storm hardening work and tough-to-access areas. The unit can easily set and service poles up to 55 feet, and even at a 15 foot load radius, it can lift over 3,600 pounds. The unit also has continuous rotation and an unlimited work zone.

This backyard derrick can traverse a variety of terrains with its ability to drive on front-to-back and side-to-side slopes of up to 15 degrees. The track carrier has retractable tracks, which can reduce the minimum width of the unit to less than 36 inches to allow easy passage through gates.

Just like every other Altec Digger Derrick, the DB41B is engineered and tested to ensure it is built to last. A feature that is standard on all Altec Digger Derricks, including the DB41B, is Altec’s five function Hydraulic Overload Protection System (HOP). During lifting operations, HOP is an important structural protection feature involved in disabling certain unit functions to prevent overload. Although HOP cannot prevent instability or replace an operator’s proper use of capacity charts, it is a valuable tool for monitoring structural limits.

The DB41B also provides the following features:

  • 49.6 hp gasoline engine
  • Hydraulic tilting pole guides
  • Maximum pick capacity of 6,000 lb
  • Full-function radio controls for driving the track carrier
  • Hydraulic side load protection (HSLP) during derrick operation
  • Ground pressure below 7 psi
  • 34 in x 48 in cargo deck with a 2,350 lb capacity to help haul equipment and transformers
  • ANSI compliant control system which interlocks when running the unit from the platform
  • Optional jib winch that offers 1,000 lb material handling at any position
