The Next Generation: The New AA/AN55+

A generational update to one of Altec’s most popular models, the new AA55+ and AN55+ provide unparalleled jobsite safety and efficiency. With advanced unit hydraulics and controls, standard platform-to-ground, easy-to-use lower control pendant and a host of other new features and updates, these units set the gold standard for safety, productivity and serviceability.

Increased Safety

The all-new AA/AN55+ is designed with industry-leading upgrades that improve safety for operators on the jobsite. Units include platform-to-ground, significantly improving access and egress while reducing the risks of slips, trips and falls when entering or exiting the platform.

A lower control pendant further reduces the risks of injury by improving access to the controls and work visibility. The lower controls also include platform and jib tilt capabilities. Operators now have the ability to rotate the boom from lower controls without repositioning themselves.

These units come standard with Altec’s lanyard detection system. This system is available in alert or interlock configurations and reminds users to secure their lanyard to the attachment point. The alert configuration sounds an alarm and flashes a warning light when the unit is engaged from platform controls without a lanyard attached. In the interlock configuration, the system will also prevent boom movement.

Increased Productivity

In addition to numerous safety upgrades, these units also feature operational upgrades designed to increase productivity. The platform features fully meterable interlocking controls. These controls don’t require as much force as previous models and can be operated one-handed. The platform also has a keypad that includes a visual E-Stop indication and Smart Station Selection. Revamped jib architecture moves the winch line closer to the operator and improves responsiveness in cold weather.

Improved Serviceability

Technology upgrades and design enhancements improve the serviceability of these units, making it easier than ever before to prevent downtime and mitigate any interruptions. In terms of design, simplified unit plumbing reduces the risk of leaks in the system by 60 percent.

Next-generation equipment with advanced control systems provides more data than ever before about how equipment is being used, but data alone isn’t enough. That’s where Altec Insights comes in—available for the AA/AN55+.

Through Altec Insights, users receive simple and actionable information designed to help answer essential questions, enhance jobsite safety and reduce downtime. Users can remotely view unit diagnostic trouble codes and vehicle status within Altec Connect.

Units are also compatible with the AXIS Service tool. Its rich user interface and intuitive system allow for quick and easy calibration and diagnosis of Altec machines.

Altec Insights is now available for JEMS units.

Altec’s Jobsite Energy Management System eliminates unnecessary engine idling at the jobsite by using lithium-ion batteries to power the electric power-takeoff (ePTO) and auxiliary chassis applications. Altec Insights for JEMS puts actionable information at user fingertips, helping them understand performance and identify corrective actions to maximize JEMS utilization. Back to School, Back to Safety

As yellow buses roll out and kids head back to the classroom, parents everywhere are stocking up on pencils, folders and backpacks. It’s back-to-school season! While students are preparing for a successful school year, it’s also the perfect time to prepare your crews for a safe and productive hurricane season. Check out these tips from Altec Sentry to make sure your crews are set for success.

Just as students need the right tools to succeed, operators of bucket trucks, digger derricks and cranes need their own “school supplies.” While so many are out shopping for binders and calculators, don’t forget to make sure your team is stocked with the supplies needed to operator equipment safely: outrigger pads, wheel chocks, gloves and other essential safety gear.

Make a List

As you might be checking off a school supply list, consider creating a storm safety checklist. Use the following questions to get started:

  • Do we have enough outrigger pads for stability in the field?
  • Are the wheel chocks in good condition and ready for action?
  • Have the gloves seen one too many battles with burrs and bolts?

Think about it like this—without a pencil, a student can’t take a test, just like a bucket truck without chocks can’t even start the job. Students prepare for pop quizzes and tests; your crews prepare for weather swings and complicated lifts. Both require preparation, attention and the right tools for the job.

Don’t Ignore the Rules

Remember those school rules?

  • No running in the hall
  • Raise your hand before speaking
  • Do your homework

Now is the time to ensure you have the right rules in place for your team’s safety:

  • No rushing unit set up
  • Communicate clearly with your crew before starting the job
  • Complete your pre-travel and pre-operational inspections

Be Prepared with Altec Sentry

A well-prepared operator, like a well-prepared student, can handle challenges with confidence. So before the storms arrive, double-check equipment readiness, review safety procedures and ensure your “classroom” in the field is set for success. Let’s keep both our kids and our crews safe, equipped and ready to handle whatever fall and storm season bring.

Keeping crews safe on the job is important to us. For nearly 20 years, Altec Sentry has helped employers train and certify Altec equipment operators on safe and proper operation. We are committed to your safety and believe that industry-leading equipment deserves industry-leading training. That’s exactly what Altec Sentry provides.
