Altec’s New LMAP Provides Multiple Convenience Benefits for Crane Operators

The new Altec LMAP (Load Moment and Area Protection) system displays more information, and its intuitive display make it one of the most convenient systems to use.

Altec was the first boom truck crane manufacturer to include operator defined audible alarm set points (Area Protection) as standard equipment within the Load Moment Indicator. The new Altec LMAP system displays more information on the working screen than alternative products. The locations of displayed information and menu navigation are intuitive, making it one of the most convenient systems to use. While the intuitive display and user interface are unique to Altec, the system’s hardware consists of common “off-the-shelf” components that were critically selected for their performance and reliability.

Features and Benefits of the New LMAP

1. The crane image shown on the right hand side of the display provides information from system sensors. The bubble-level shows the angle of the swing bearing. The swing position is shown on the perimeter of the bubble-level while the swing angle is shown above the crane image.

2. The crane image on the left-hand side of the display shows information from system sensors in addition to user defined setup information.Boom angle and boom length are delivered by system sensors while load radius and sheave height are calculated by the system. Parts of line, boom configuration and winch selection are user defined.

The system automatically selects the appropriate load chart based on the outrigger beam position sensors.

3. Operator defined audible alarm set points (Area Protection), A2B and crane overload warnings are displayed in the lower portion of the screen.Additional warnings, that improve safety and crane reliability, are also shown on the lower portion of the display. If the carrier’s exhaust particulate filter requires regeneration, a warning can be displayed which helps prevent carrier shut-down. Other carrier information can also be accessed from the display.

LMAP system warnings are displayed to provoke service action. Optional equipment warnings can be displayed, such as wind speed.

4. The display withstands the elements and improves crane reliability.Hardware components were critically selected for performance and reliability. Each modules surpasses IP67 rating criteria for the ingress of dust and water.
