Description of Defect:
The boom stow switch wire routed along the boom stow upright in the cargo storage area lacks adequate physical protection from damage. If the wire insulation is damaged, the exposed wire could create an ignition-hot short to ground, causing the wire to overheat.
Safety Risk:
A short circuit could overheat the wire and ignite flammable material in the cargo area, increasing the risk of fire.
Consequence if not Remedied:
A short circuit could overheat the wire and ignite flammable material in the cargo area, increasing the risk of fire.
Precautions that may be taken to minimize the risk until the corrective action is complete:
A preoperational inspection including test flight could identify a potential failure of the boom out of stow switch.
