Raising Signs Well Without a CDL: Altec’s LS60

Designed for the lights and signs industry, Altec’s LS60 is a non-insulating, under CDL, telescopic aerial device with a working height of 60.6 ft and a side reach of 53.1 ft. The two-man aluminum platform has a 600 lb maximum capacity and rotates an industry-leading 180 degrees for easy accessibility when completing installations or maintenance work.

The LS60 mounts on an under-CDL chassis while still allowing for up to 3,000 lb of payload with a welder installed.

“The design of the LS60 came directly from customer feedback,” says Mark Kruger, Altec Sales Manager. “Altec understands how to design and build aerial equipment, but we could not provide what sign companies require to be profitable and productive without their direct input. We value and appreciate our customers’ participation in designing the next generation of sign equipment.”

For lifting materials on a jobsite, operators can attach a 500 lb capacity jib in the platform or remove the platform for load line operation of up to 5,900 lb. When the unit is mounted on an under CDL chassis and equipped with a 2,000 lb winch, the operator can drive the truck and use the crane function to lift materials without any special licenses or government training. The LS60 features outriggers with a standard short jacking capability which decreases the unit’s overall footprint to 12 ft and allows operators to safely set up in tight spots or busy areas.

A feature that is standard on all Altec products with a crane function, including the LS60, is Altec’s Hydraulic Overload Protection System (HOP). During lifting operations, HOP is an important structural protection feature involved in disabling certain unit functions to prevent overloading. Although HOP cannot prevent instability or replace an operator’s proper use of capacity charts, it is a valuable tool for monitoring structural limits and increasing the useful life of the aerial device to maximize uptime. Altec’s focus is not only to help crews operate safer and smarter, but also to assist in increasing productivity and profitability.

The LS60 provides the following features:

  • Non-Insulating Three-Stage Hydraulically Sequenced Telescopic Aerial Device (ability to utilize all three boom functions without a decrease in boom speed to any function)
  • Aluminum Platform, Single 2-Man 60 x 36 x 45 in with 180 Degree Rotation
  • Hydraulic Self-Leveling Platform
  • Quick Disconnect Platform
  • Single-Handle Electric/Hydraulic Proportional Joystick Controls with a Single Interlock for Activation
  • Out and Down Primary Outriggers
  • Down Only Auxiliary Outriggers
  • Short Jacking Option using Rotational Interlocks on Outriggers
  • Hydraulic Overload Protection System (HOP)
  • Minimum 25,999 GVWR Under CDL Chassis
