Why Track? The Altec DC-DM47 Digger Derrick

DC47 with boom extendedWith the large variety of Altec products available, in a variety of working heights and capacities, it’s hard to imagine more possibilities being available to our customers. But there are. A number of our digger derrick units are available installed on track vehicles. You may wonder why and how a track carrier would fit into your job needs, but the answer is as simple as it eliminates limitations many crews face due to terrain and land conditions.

The primary benefit of using a track vehicle in lieu of a wheeled chassis is the ability tracks have to travel on land where even specialized wheeled vehicles cannot go. Continuous tracks offer a larger surface area, which distributes weight of heavy vehicles more evenly. They offer ultra low ground pressure, allowing them to travel surfaces that even a person could not walk on without sinking. Track vehicles get the unit to the job site with a much lower risk of delay due to getting stuck or being unable to navigate certain terrains. They also make climbing steep hills and navigating mountainous terrain possible, as well as the difficulties that come with snow and ice. Rubber tracks provide excellent grip, while still allowing you to travel on concrete or blacktop without damage.

DC47 Track Unit A variety of track vehicle sizes are available to accommodate the many digger derrick and aerial lift units Altec manufactures. Whether your job requires you to travel up steep hills, over wet and muddy ground, through swampy land or over snow and ice, there’s a track vehicle with an Altec unit installed that can get you there.

Our DC47 and DM47 digger derrick units both come with the option to be installed on track vehicles. With maximum lift capacities of 30,000 pounds and maximum sheave heights of 46.4 feet, these impressive machines can be utilized in almost any location if installed on a track unit.
