The crew at Treemaster of Savannah was familiar with Altec—they had used knuckle booms and bucket trucks in the past—but when Mike Schuman saw the AC65E at TCI Expo, he knew he’d be adding the crane to his fleet.
The location of the LMI cable inside the boom was a big selling feature, and the sheer capacity of the AC65E gives the crew more useful reach, allowing them to do more in a single setup. The AC65E also offers a number of ergonomic features that keeps operators safer on the jobsite and improves safety.
“Altec outdid themselves with this crane,” said Lance Schuman, operator. “It’s a beast.”

When Christopher Clark, owner and operator of Clark’s Tree Express, first purchased the Teupen TC75A, his crews were a little “iffy” about the machine. It was a new machine and they hadn’t seen one locally in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area.
“After using it, my guy who was the head climber said he would never … climb again because this lift is able to get him anywhere he needs to be.”
Since July 2023, Clark says his company has grown by around 12 percent in large part because the Teupen machine allows them to work much more quickly. It’s also cut down on operating costs and insurance costs with less climbing.
“Overall, it’s saving us as a whole around 40 percent of our costs per crew,” Clark said. “The no mess, light weight track system its designed with has really made it easy for us to access any place locally.”
About Teupen
Teupen backyard aerial devices are assembled in Germany, sold globally, and regarded as best in class—and are now part of the expansive Altec network that includes service, tools and accessories, financing and more.
The TC75A used by Clark’s Tree Express is the most versatile and broadly used machine among all of the brand’s CANOPY® models. It’s easily transported behind a full-size pickup truck, and its tracked chassis proves versatile and non-damaging across sodded lawns or surfaces with fragile or sensitive pavers.
The machine weight is a major benefit in both reducing floor loading and improving mobility. Most importantly, its articulated boom design combined with the smooth computer enhanced, electric over hydraulic controls make the machine easy to operate and smooth in movements.
When Advent Energy Solutions started their company, they knew who would supply their equipment and tools. Based on years of previous experience working for different companies, the group knew Altec was a single solution for equipment, tools, accessories and service.
“We’ve had a long-term relationship with Altec for numerous years through a couple of different companies,” said David South, Advent Energy Solutions CEO. “We’ve always relied on them for not only the quality of our products but also the service. Whether it’s new equipment or tools, the communication and service overall have been outstanding.”
South and his team worked with Altec to build their fleet, and created customized truck kits with Altec Supply. Truck kits from Altec Supply are curated and assembled based on customer needs and arrive when equipment does, saving valuable time.
“In our purchasing arrangements with Altec, we have laid out a specific toolkit that is perfect for what we’re trying to do and accomplish in the field,” South said. “[Altec] has been very instrumental in streamlining our needs and getting us the products we need when we need them.”
When choosing a vendor for equipment and tooling, South finds effective communication and customer service to be of the utmost importance—qualities that Altec is committed to providing its customers.
“As a business owner, service is as important to us as the price,” South said. “The overall communication and overall support we receive from Altec and all of their divisions has been really important for our business.”

Matthew Peters, operations superintendent at South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association, was familiar with Altec in his previous role with the company.
“All I knew from Altec before I met Ed, our account manager, was y’all were the bucket and derrick company,” Peters said. “Our buckets and our derricks were Altec.”
But when Peters assumed his current role and was interested in purchasing new assets for the company’s fleet, he experienced the total Altec value, working with Altec Capital to identify fair market value leases as a way to save the company maintenance costs while still getting custom trucks for his linemen.
“We realize that when we get to a certain age on some of these older trucks, our maintenance costs goes through the roof,” Peters said. “We looked at leasing because we don’t have to get cookie cutter trucks. We can actually spec our trucks to what the linemen want, so it fits us.”
FMV leases offer the flexibility of ownership and the lowest monthly payment with terms that match the useful life of equipment.
With an FMV lease, customers can improve operations and productivity without the expense of buying the equipment outright or a high down payment. At lease maturity, customers can opt to return the equipment and lease a new unit, continue to lease on a month-to-month basis or purchase the equipment at its fair market value.
While the lease affordability and flexibility are important factors for Peters, the decision to use Altec equipment and Altec Capital comes down to one thing—relationships.
“When I look at everything, it comes down to the relationship after the sale is done and the paper is signed,” Peters said.

When City Light & Power gets a new contract, time is of the essence. The Denver, Colorado, based company maintains utility grids on military bases across the country, in addition to other projects such as municipal contracts for street lighting and utility construction.
The company holds contracts on 10 military instillations across the country and with each contract comes a need for new crews, tools and equipment—all in a set transition period.
“When we get awarded one of these contracts, it’s essentially a brand new business,” said Tony Lecara, City Light & Power vice president. “We typically don’t have a footprint in the state we get. We’re going out and hiring folks, and we have to start tooling up and getting equipment. We have a transition period and once it finishes, we have to be ready to go for any outages to occur.”
To make it happen, City Light & Power utilizes the total Altec value, including equipment, tools, service and financing.
“It allows a small operation like us to operate as if we have twice the employees,” said Walt Jones, purchasing and fleet manager. “The partnership we have forged with Altec is like adding headcount to your team to get the job done.”
Every step of the way
When Marty Maxfield, CFO, joined City Light & Power, the company ran a request for proposal to consolidate its fleet. Many factors went into CLP’s decision to choose Altec. Altec’s family-owned attitude and core values was something the leadership team at City Light & Power related to, and Altec’s ability to provide services to the company at bases across the country was invaluable.
“From my standpoint, it was an easy decision,” Maxfield said. “When you get a culture fit like that, when you get the attention you need when growing the busines and making an acquisition like that … You get the service that’s imperative in the business we’re in, and a focus on safety was important as well.”
For each new contract, Altec works with City Light & Power every step of the way. Altec Supply helps the company get the tools it needs for its equipment, organizing it by pallet so that it’s easy for crews to stock on the truck. Much of the company’s investment has been financed through Altec Capital, and Altec’s Service team is available nationwide for maintenance and repairs. When rental equipment is needed, City Light & Power has worked with Global Rental to meet those needs.
“It’s an amazing network of support, and I can’t be successful unless I have that type of partner I can rely on—and I do,” Jones said. “We are so time critical on some of these projects. We have a specific date we have to hit, and a monumental amount of things have to be done by that date. Everything that Altec has said they would do within the time needed, they did.”
Aldercote, a manufacturer of vehicle access insulated lifts and specialty vehicles for the UK and Ireland, relies on Altec to provide insulated equipment to their customers. As a distributor of Altec equipment, Aldercote has accessibility to parts, service and training support.
David Dillon, Aldercote’s Director, attributes his company’s strong partnership with Altec to customer service and dedication to quality.

For Aldercote, Altec manufactures and provides insulating aerial platforms, digger derricks and telescopic truck cranes. These models are certified to meet all ANSI standards and are CE certified for sale in Europe.
David’s brother, Paul Dillion, says their customers appreciate the compact design of the AT33 for its ability to maneuver well through tight roads and country lanes.
Overall, Paul says that Altec brings a new dimension of added value to their business.
“We could never envision working as a partner with someone better,” said Paul Dillon.
