Op-Ready Reports for JEMS S/SE/LE and BG are now available. Op-Ready adds operational readiness and event notification capabilities to JEMS assets, helping fleets identify certain performance event conditions that can impact productivity and reliability.

By combining data from telematics and Altec equipment to identify events that could impact job readiness, Op-Ready addresses issues today to prevent downtime tomorrow.

What Are Op-Ready Reports for JEMS?

Jobsite Energy Management System (JEMS) eliminates unnecessary engine idling at the jobsite by using lithium-ion batteries to power the electric power-takeoff (ePTO), auxiliary chassis applications and jobsite tools.

Op-Ready helps fleets focus on productivity and reliability by tracking chassis, unit and JEMS data, then transmitting the events that require attention.

Op-Ready Reports are customizable, so you can focus on what matters for your fleet. You can configure reports to summarize the entire fleet, a subgroup of assets or a single unit. Report recipients are configurable, too, so the right people see the correct information at the right time to keep equipment up and running.

What Productivity Challenges Do Fleet Managers Face?

Unplanned downtime remains a consistent challenge for fleet managers working to keep equipment up and running. Unnecessary idling at the jobsite can also inhibit productivity and increase costs. On a normal day on the jobsite, trucks sit and idle for hours, which burns through fuel and adds wear and tear to engines. Idling at the jobsite for just one hour is the equivalent of driving 33 miles.* Accurate jobsite performance data is a piece of the puzzle to increase productivity, but fleet managers must be able to implement actionable insights from this information.

How Op-Ready Reports for JEMS and Altec Insights Work Together to Increase Productivity

The Altec Insights for JEMS page helps you get more out of your JEMS fleet and includes the following features:

  • Track fuel savings and identify missed opportunities for savings
  • Compare anti-idle hours with total jobsite hours by individual asset or fleet
  • Receive quarterly and annual reports with clear utilization insights
  • View a list with metrics to identify high- and low-performing JEMS assets
  • Monitor JEMS Vehicle Status near real time

Altec Insights for JEMS also supports remote diagnostics using data directly from the jobsite. You can view Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and Vehicle Status alerts to better understand equipment from wherever you are located. Diagnostic Trouble Codes provide fault information, including severity, potential impact, and cause, as well as a recommendation. This data provides quick remote troubleshooting, helping you potentially avoid unnecessary service calls.

Op-Ready for JEMS fits alongside JEMS and JEMS Insights by adding scheduled event notifications tied to key battery faults, override engagement, and much more. Op-Ready helps fleets build earlier awareness, enabling teams to respond sooner, and supports JEMS battery health and longevity through battery and override event notifications and related guidance within the Insights context.

Altec Insights Expands to Include E-Series Cranes

Altec Insights is now available for E-series cranes. Designed to promote a safer jobsite, Altec Insights is a digital product that uses data from equipment to deliver simple, actionable insights to improve equipment usage and jobsite safety.

Boom truck cranes are specialized pieces of equipment that offer operators more information and feedback on unit status than nearly any other type of equipment used in the utility industry. This information, such as zone rated capacity charts, available capacity, load on hook, load radius, and boom setup are vital for operators to properly setup and operate the equipment.

With Altec Insights for E-series cranes, this information is synthesized and combined with Altec expertise to deliver information and recommendations via configurable notifications and reports. This information can then be used to answer three fundamental questions regarding jobsite safety and fleet performance.

1. Is the machine being used correctly and safely?

Insights for E-series cranes includes Insights for unit setup, configuration, and operating modes, and creates events when a unit is setup or used outside of the designed parameters. Operating a crane with improper setup or overriding safety systems risks damaging the unit and property, and, most importantly, personal injury. Insights helps provide context to facilitate crew discussions to ensure the unit is being used correctly and operated within the safety systems of the machine.

2. Is it the right piece of equipment for the job?

Constantly having to tear down and move a crane to make a pick can be frustrating. Frequently needing multiple setups on a single jobsite or routinely operating at the margins of a unit’s load chart can be indicators that the wrong piece of equipment is being used. Altec Insights offers historical event information on both a unit and fleet basis, allowing fleet managers to optimize the efficiency of their existing fleet by sending the right piece of equipment with the right crew to the right jobsite.

3. How can we mitigate and prevent downtime?

Unit Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) and Vehicle Status information offer unparalleled visibility to equipment health. Having a historical log of a unit’s DTCs drastically reduces technician’s time spent on diagnosing an issue or attempting to replicate a symptom encountered in the field. Additionally, Vehicle Status gives foremen, fleet managers, and service technicians a near real-time snapshot of the machine’s setup, configuration, and chassis information.

This powerful information can be used to prevent unnecessary downtime and service calls for things like an unintentionally activated emergency stop. In situations where the unit does require service, it allows you to make an informed decision on whether to service it in the field, what to bring to fix it, or if the machine needs to be brought back to the yard for repairs.

Remote Diagnostics are Now Available on Altec Insights

Altec Insights is a powerful tool for understanding your Altec equipment, now with two new features.

Most supervisors have probably received a familiar phone call—the crew has arrived at the jobsite, but their equipment isn’t working properly. The outriggers won’t deploy, and the crew can’t start their work until a mobile service tech can make it to their location.

With the newest updates to Altec Insights, a powerful tool for understanding your Altec equipment, that familiar situation plays out a little differently. Through Insights, customers can remotely view unit diagnostic trouble codes and vehicle status within Altec Connect.

Once the supervisor receives the call from the crew that the derrick isn’t working, he logs into Altec Connect and pulls up that piece of equipment. He verifies there aren’t any active diagnostic trouble codes, then checks the vehicle status tab. Turns out an emergency stop is activated but the operator forgot to check the one at the front bumper controls. The lineman disengages the switch, deploys the outriggers, and the team gets to work.

Altec Insights is Designed to Help You Work Safely and Efficiently

Altec Insights allows users of select Altec equipment including E-Series derricks and cranes to understand their equipment like never before. Insights combines the raw data from your equipment with Altec expertise and gives users actionable information to improve safety and reduce downtime.

Vehicle Status and Diagnostic Trouble Codes are now available within Insights under the “Analytics” tab. As you saw above, these features allow users to view equipment remotely and identify any easily resolved errors, saving valuable time and money.

Vehicle Status

Vehicle Status information allows for easy remote trouble shooting. As in the example above, an activated emergency stop can be a common occurrence that would result in an unneeded call to a service technician. Vehicle Status includes over a dozen pieces of information including the status of the parking brake, PTO and outrigger interlocks.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Unit DTCs provide details on potential equipment faults. DTCs include the name, description, symptoms and actions for further troubleshooting to identify the root cause. DTCs can detect temperature and pressure sensors reporting error values, joystick faults, and slip ring communication issues.

When used in tandem, these features allow users to get the full picture of their equipment and know whether simple troubleshooting is the fix, or verify a service call is necessary for equipment operation.
